Experienced residential and commercial real estate agent since 1976. Has served on several boards and associations including as past treasurer of Commercial Alliance of Las Vegas. Served as past president, vice-president, treasurer, and director of Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors’ offices. Also involved in the community as past president and treasurer of the Downtown Rotary Club of Las Vegas. Served as past warden and vestryman for Christ Church. Received the CRS designation from the Council of Residential Specialist. Graduate of the Realtor Institute, GRI designation and graduate of the risk reduction GRI designation. Supporter of public and charter schools in Las Vegas and have been involved with several ROTC programs at local high schools and charter schools.

Nikki L. Hixson-Homer

Qualifications:

Experienced educator and social worker working with at risk students at both Clark County School District and at Beacon Academy of Nevada. Communicated with parents, staff and outside agencies to enlist wrap around support for both students and families. Facilitated in class groups covering topics such as friendship, goals, safety and grief, as well as other subjects that involve social and emotional learning. Worked as a case manager at Desert Canyon Rehabilitation Hospital with doctors, therapy and nursing staff to ensure the needs of each patient were met during rehabilitation. Worked with domestic violence victims at SAFE House helping victims transition into the community in a positive manner. Co-facilitated a women’s support group teaching life skills, self-awareness techniques and healthy communication. Supporter of charter schools and school choice and was a school leader in another alternative charter school working with at-risk students to help them experience success as they work toward their high school diploma.

Now has five satellite Makers & Finders locations in Las Vegas with a Chinatown location baking empanadas and roasting coffee for each location. Understands the importance of education for at risk students in underserved locations and is a role model for earning college credits while attending Nevada State High School.

Carrie Sue Hilton

Qualifications:

Experienced music educator in Clark County School District since 2009. Has taught music to students in grades K-8, led annual concert and musical performances at school and in the local community. Led music organ and piano performances for her local church group. Supporter of charter schools and school choice and was a parent of two children that graduated from Odyssey Charter School.

Hector Gonzalez

Started his own tax preparation firm with a desk and printer with the support of family and friends. In 2015 opened TaxPro at current location. Now leads a team of 7 employees with 1,700 customers annually. Supporter of charter schools and school choice. Serves as a mentor to at risk students showing that you can grow to be a successful business owner even starting with a GED. Previously attended Western High School.

Previously worked as a school principal for ThrivePoint High School in Buckeye, Arizona from 2010- 2013. Familiar with online and blended learning platforms and has worked as an educational leader in a variety of online and blended learning environments. Led the development of school improvement plans in coordination with the school district based on goals toward student achievement. Planned and implemented school wide staff development and workshop trainings. Planned and implemented monthly parent engagement and learning opportunities based on feedback and input from parent and community members. Monitored and analyzed data from the academic and MTSS/PBIS teams and implemented plan of action based on the data. Supporter of charter schools and school choice. Was an educational leader in an alternative charter school designed to serve at-risk students.

A decade of experience in college access and success programs in Southern Nevada and a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Holds organizational leadership certification, and also served on the UNLV Academic Success Center Advisory Board.

Greg Mingo

Mentor, Math, & Science Teacher at Doral Academy – Fire Mesa

Qualifications:

Has more than 30 years of experience in education. Currently a 5th grade Math and Science teacher as well as a teacher mentor at Doral Academy – Fire Mesa. Retired CCSD principal for both elementary and secondary. Graduate of the Leadership Institute of Nevada (LION). Elected first president of LION Alumni Board. Completed field study and pilot for the National Board Certification for Principals. Recipient of the Nevada Trans-Disciplinary Inclusion Project scholarship designed to promote inclusive educational settings for students with disabilities. Consistent champion for students who struggle with the traditional school routine and structure. Always looking to find a better way to educate students.
